With a huge range of entertainment available online these days more and more of us are choosing to swap time in front of the television to fill our day on the Internet. There’s endless things to occupy your spare time and unlike with television you choose what and when to watch.

Whether you want to watch movies online, watch satellite tv or catch up on the latest documentary movies, you will find that the television is becoming an contraption that many of us can now do without.

At Free Online Documentary we strive to bring you the finest range of documentary movies available gathered together in one easy to navigate place. Topics covered are varied with our aim being to bring you the best-made documentaries whatever the subject matter. Having said that you will find a larger number of documentaries on subjects which I find particularly interesting, namely Science, Religion, Philosophy and Society.

I encourage all visitors to the site to email me with ideas about any future additions you would like to see on the site. Got a favorite documentary film you would like to see on the site? Or maybe you would like to see more movies or a particular subject.

I watched this on British TV last night and it made my blood boil. Taking liberties is a documentary charting the destruction of our Basic Liberties under 10 Years of New Labour which was released to coincide with Tony Blair’s departure. Follow the stories of normal people who’s lives have been turned upside down by injustice, from being arrested for holding a placard outside parliament to being tortured in Guantanamo Bay. Its about time we took the power back!

As usual I’ve been letting my duties at this site fall by the wayside as I work on other things. Fear not, I have a treat for you this time, at least its a treat if you like either motorcycles or travel documentaries. If you’ve never seen Long Way Round then now’s your chance, you can watch the entire documentary series below.

For those of you who haven’t heard of the Long Way Round before its a documentary about a once in a lifetime motorcycle touring adventure undertaken by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. They traveled through some of the most beautiful and dangerous places in the world as they rode from London, through Europe and Russia, to get to New York going the round way round.

Ever been astounded by the number of coffee shops on any given high street? As a society we seem to have acquired an insatiable thrist for coffee in all its wonderful forms with many coffee chains making obscene amounts of money from our caffeine addiction.

Multinational coffee companies such as Starbucks now rule our highstreets and shopping malls using sometimes dubious marketing stategies to dominate this $80 billion industry. After oil, coffee is the most valuable trading commodity on planet earth.

While consumers in the so called developed world continue to pay through the nose for their favorite espresso based drink, the farmers in the coffee growing nations receive such miserly renumeration for their efforts that many are being forced to abandon their coffee fields.

Black Gold is a riveting documentary which follows Tedesse Maskela of the Oromia Coffee Growers Cooperative as he travels the world struggling to get farmers a fair price for the beans they grow.

The movie demostrates the huge amount of power wielded by the multinational players that dominate the world’s coffee trade. Commodity traders, the International coffee exchanges and the dealings of ministers at the World Trade Organisation reveal the challenges faced in the quest for a long-term solution for farmers.

Free Online Documentaries

April 19th, 2009

Well things are getting back to normal here at Free Online Documentary. The site’s server was hacked so I’ve moved the entire contents to a new hosting account where hopefully things will be more secure. It took a few days to get all the documentary movies transferred over here as I foolishly hadn’t backed up my database but I think we’re now back to where we were.

I’d like to thank those of you who offered help in repopulating the site with documentaries but after I started the job myself I realized it wasn’t going to take as long as I feared.

If there are any specific documentary movies or even certain topics you would like to see here drop my a line at info@freeonlinedocumentary.com. Even if you are looking for new movie releases on DVD that you would like to see for free online I will do my best to find them.

Professor Jim Al-Khalili explores how understanding the atom more deeply has forced us to rethink the nature of reality.
